Unlike ETS trains, KTM Komuter services require no advance booking.
Just turn up at Arau KTM Station, go upstairs to the ticket counter, buy a ticket to Butterworth and take the next southbound Komuter train.
Seating on Komuter trains is on a first-come, first-served basis so you may not be able to get a seat all the time.
However, since Arau is just a couple of stops south of the trains originating station at Padang Besar, the trains are usually not that full from Arau.
If you are travelling to Arau from Langkawi Island, you can get to the train station by taxi (the quickest but most expensive way) or you can take a local bus service operated by MyBas Perlis.
These buses depart from Kuala Perlis Bus Terminal to Kangar Bus Terminal (Bukit Lagi). You then have to take another MYBas bus from Kangar to Arau KTM Station.

Once you arrive at Butterworth KTM Station, if you are heading over to Penang island, you can take the ferry from the nearby Penang Sentral Terminal building located just a few minutes walk away.
