The quickest way to get to SP from Arau is to take the ETS Arau to Sungai Petani trains operated by KTM Berhad (KTMB).
However, a much cheaper way to travel from Arau to Sungai Petani by train is to take one of the northern commuter services (Komuter Utara).

Taking the commuter train from Arau to Sungai Petani is often the best option as trains are more frequent and much cheaper.
The main difference between the two services is that commuter trains are like subway / tube trains and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis so you may find you will have to stand for some or at times, all of the journey.

If you want to travel on the cheap KTM Komuter trains you do not have to worry about booking tickets - all you do is turn up at Arau Railway Station, go to the ticket counter upstairs, buy your tickets and take the next commuter train heading south.
If you want to take one of the ETS trains, it is always best to plan ahead and buy your tickets in advance as trains can sometimes be fully booked.
