To travel from Batu Gajah to Hat Yai, Thailand, you will first have to take the KTM ETS Batu Gajah to Padang Besar train to the border, then either connect to an SRT Shuttle service to Hat Yai Junction Railway Station, or cross over the nearby main border and take a regular minivan or less frequent local bus.

If you are planning to travel from Batu Gajah to Hatyai by train, you will have to take one of the ETS services that connect to the Shuttle trains.

If you want to travel from Batu Gajah to Bangkok by train, and many places in between such as Hua Hin, Surat Thani (for Koh Samui / Phangan), Chumphon (for Ko Tao), you can connect to the night train from Padang Besar to Bangkok.

If you arrive at Padang Besar station at a time where you would have a long wait for the Shuttle service, you can take alternative transport to Hat Yai.
First take the passenger footbridge over the tracks from the second floor of the train station.
The other side of this bridge is where you will find the main road border crossing to Padang Besar in Thailand.
You can either take a taxi (available form the base of the footbridge).
Walk or take a motorbike taxi over the border, then take a regular minivan to Hat Yai from the town centre, or a much less frequent bus.

Like all Malaysian ETS trains, you will need a seat reservation to board the train.
You would also be wise to book your seats as far in advance as you can (especially if you are travelling over the weekend or a holiday period).
