Taking the fast ETS Kuala Kangsar to Butterworth (Penang Sentral) train service is the quickest way to travel from the royal town of Perak, Kuala Kangsar to Penang, with a number of both Gold and Platinum Electric Train Services heading north.
The journey time for these Malaysian Railways trains (Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad known as KTM and KTMB for short) from Kuala Kangsar to Penang Sentral is around one and a quarter hours.
Once you arrive at Butterworth Railway Station, it is just a short walk (through the Penang Sentral Terminal) to the jetty where regular ferry boats make the short 15 minutes trip over to Georgetown on Penang Island.

After arriving at Butterworth ETS / Komuter Train Station, if you are planning to travel over to Georgetown on Penang island, just follow the signs to the ferry departure point via the Penang Sentral Terminal building.
The walk to the ferry jetty should take you between 5 and 10 minutes.
