If you want to travel on the ETS Train from Padang Besar to Alor Setar in Kedah, there are a number of Electric Train Services every day.
This short trip by the new Electric Train Service takes around 35 - 40 minutes.
Please Note: You can now also travel from Pdg. Besar to Alor Setar by the much cheaper KTM Komuter Trains that operate regular services every one or two hours apart, travelling between the Thai border and Butterworth in Penang.
The difference is:
ETS Trains stop at fewer stations and you are allocated a seat.
Komuter trains stop at every station and seats are on a first come first served basis, so you may have to stand if the trains are really busy.
This is usually not a problem most of the time and we would recommend you use the Komuter Trains on this short route.

Tickets for this short trip will cost:

ETS Platinum: 19 MYR for Adults - 14 MYR for Children.
If you compare these ticket prices with the KTM Komuter ticket prices at only 5.70 MYR, you can see the large difference in price and why we recommend using the Komuter services.
For all ETS train services in Malaysia, if you want to make sure you can get a seat, you will need to book in advance.
Advance booking is easily done online, either via the KTM website, or for a quicker and easier booking process, use an online ticket agent.
