Travel on the fast (keretapi laju) ETS train to Kedah state in the north-west of Peninsular Malaysia makes getting to to Kedah, quick and easy, with the Electric Train Service operating on two routes:
There are four railway stations in Kedah state that have ETS services.
From south to north they are:
All ETS Gold and Platinum services stop at the larger destinations of Sungai Petani and Alor Seter.
While only the ETS Gold trains stop at Gurun and Anak Bukit.

You can use these trains to travel from the following states:
To the south:
Penang, Perak, Wilayah Persekutuan (Kuala Lumpur), Selangor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

You can also use the KTM Komuter Utara Trains (northern commuter line) from all stations in Perlis, Penang, and some stations in Perak.
To get to Bukit Mertajam, Bukit Tangah and Butterworth in Penang (located on a branch line), you will have to use these KTM Komuter services, as the ETS trains no longer travel from Butterworth to Kedah.

KL Bus Station (TBS) to Kedah by train:
To travel from TBS to Kedah, you can take the direct service from Bandar Tasik Selatan Station (located next to TBS Bus Station) or take a KTM komuter train from BTS to KL Sentral and connect to one of the ETS services from KL to Kedah from there.
If you want to travel from Johor to Kedah by train, you will first have to get to either Gamas or Tampin, as the ETS services currently all terminate at Gemas and the line to JB has yet to be upgraded to accommodate these Electric Trains.

If you want to travel from Singapore to Kedah by train, you will have to take a Shuttle train to JB Sentral Station, then connect to the other Shuttle services to Gemas / Tampin.
