All of the trains from Hat Yai have comfortable sleeping berths / beds available, except for the fast sprinter train number 42 (currently not operating).
This is a much smaller train made up of just a few carriages, with all coaches having only 2nd class seats available.
So, you get there faster, but you have to sit all the way.
It's much more relaxing to travel on one of the sleeper trains and get the chance to lie down in your berth and get some sleep.
Arriving at Bangkok's new Bang Sue Grand station, you can get to anyway in the city quite easily with connections by bus, subway train or taxi from the station.
