As the KTM Komuter Utara (Northern Commuter) train route has been extended, you can now take a KTM Komuter Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh train to the capital of Perak state.
These commuter trains are much cheaper than the ETS services and they depart at fairly regular intervals throughout the day.
The Komuter (commuter) train from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh takes 33 minutes to get you to Ipoh railway station, with the train stopping just once along the route at Sungai Siput.

KTM Komuter train tickets from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh cost only 5.10 MYR making it the cheapest way to get from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh (compared to the more expensive ETS trains on this route).
Once the train pulls in to Ipoh, you are on the edge of Ipoh Old Town where you will find most of the tourist attractions.
From Ipoh Railway Station you can easily walk into the city to find a place to stay in around 10 minutes.
One of the good things about travelling on the KTM Komuter trains is that you can just turn up at the station and buy a ticket for the next departure (unlike ETS trains where seating is limited and you should book your tickets days in advance).
KTM Komuter train tickets are only sold on the day of departure.
Seating on KTM Komuter trains are on a first-come, first-served basis so there is a chance you may have to stand for part or all of the journey during busy times of the day or major public holidays.
Seating on ETS trains is by reserved seating.
So, if you want to make sure you get a seat, you will have to take the more expensive ETS train to from Kuala Kangsar to Ipoh.
