With the extension of the KTM Komuter Utara (Northern Commuter) train route, you can now take a cheap KTM Komuter train from Taiping to Ipoh making this journey much more easier and cheaper than before.
The Komuter (commuter) train from Taiping to Ipoh takes a little over 50 minutes to get you to Ipoh railway station, with the train stopping at Padang Rengas, Kuala Kangsar, and Sungai Siput along the way.

KTM Komuter train tickets from Taiping to Ipoh cost only 6.80 MYR making this the cheapest way to travel from Taiping to Ipoh (compared to the more expensive ETS trains on this route or the bus).
Arriviing in Ipoh, you come to one of Malaysia's most beautiful old train stations - Ipoh Railway Station.
The Ipoh train station is located on the edge of the "Old Town" and is within an easy 10 minute walk of plenty of places to stay in the most interesting part of the city where you will find the majority of the tourist attractions.
Unlike ETS train tickets where it is advisable to book your seats in advance, KTM Komuter tickets are only sold on the day of departure.
Just turn up 10 or 15 minutes before the Komuter train is scheduled to depart from Taiping - buy your tickets from the station ticket counter, then take the next KTM Komuter train to Ipoh.
Unlike ETS trains where you are allocated a seat number when you buy a ticket, seating on KTM Komuter trains are on a first-come, first-served basis so you may have to stand for part or all of the journey during busy times of the day or holiday periods when carriages can be much busier.
If you want to gaurantee a seat, you will have to take the more expensive ETS train to Ipoh.
